U.S. President Donald Trump revealed details of his phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, saying Putin could be more helpful by ending the war against Ukraine.
Trump described the conversation as “very good,” noting that the leaders discussed both Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.
“We talked about Ukraine — it’s basically an endless struggle. There is enormous hatred between President Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It seems they just can’t reach an agreement,” Trump said.
According to the U.S. president, Putin expressed a willingness to help address tensions in the Middle East. However, Trump said he told the Russian leader that ending the war between Russia and Ukraine would be far more helpful.
“We had a very good conversation, and he wants to act very constructively,” Trump added.
Meanwhile, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said the call also covered the situation around Iran and possible negotiations to resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine.
After the conversation, Trump announced plans to ease oil sanctions on “some countries” to help address the fuel crisis triggered by the war involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
