Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov becomes advisor to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov on technological defense areas
Serhiy Beskrestnov, a specialist in electronic warfare (EW) and communication systems, known by his call sign “Flash,” has been appointed as an advisor to Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov on technological aspects of defense. In his announcement, Fedorov described Beskrestnov as one of the “most skilled practical experts in drones, electronic warfare, and enemy decision analysis.”
“Flash’s expertise lies in radio communications, EW systems, and intelligence. He was the first to report on the Russian use of FPV drones with computer vision and rocket-propelled Shaheds. His current focus is on systemic solutions against Russian strike and reconnaissance UAVs. We need to reduce the effectiveness of enemy attacks and protect our people. The development of EW is critical — in war, the winner is the one who adapts faster,” Fedorov said.
The minister also outlined the technological defense areas Beskrestnov will work on:
Handling and analyzing captured enemy equipment;
Analysis, logistics, studying enemy solutions, and turning this experience into strategic advantage;
Expert assessment of new military developments.
Beskrestnov confirmed joining Fedorov’s team and emphasized that “bureaucracy, indifference, and lobbying of certain interests” had previously slowed dynamic development in Ukraine, while Russia often moves faster in defense technology. Nevertheless, he believes that Fedorov’s team “will succeed,” although it will be challenging and “the entire system will resist changes.”
“With enthusiasm and optimism, I am ready to begin my duties,” Flash said.
