The next round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States was planned for this week but has been postponed at the request of the U.S., Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy explained that the delay is due to the situation in the Middle East, particularly around Iran. He stressed that Ukraine is ready to meet at any time in a format that can realistically help end the war.
“The Russians are trying to exploit the Middle East and Gulf region to advance their aggression, turning Iranian strikes on neighbors and U.S. bases into a second front against Ukraine and, more broadly, the West,” Zelenskyy said.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump continues to believe a peace deal in Ukraine is possible, with his special representative Steve Witkoff reporting ongoing work on a final document expected in the coming weeks. Trump has also suggested that Zelenskyy is slowing the peace process, claiming Ukraine is losing leverage while Russia is ready to negotiate.
