Kyiv plans to build combined water crossings over the Dnipro River, along with access roads, at a projected cost of UAH 1 billion, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting of the capital’s Defence Council, according to Klitschko’s statement on Telegram.

“The issues discussed included the implementation of a project to build combined water crossings over the Dnipro River and access roads to them. The initiative was proposed by the state, and the government has adopted a relevant resolution,” Klitschko said.

Military command will determine the locations, subject to approval by the Kyiv City Military Administration.

“The city, following the government’s recommendation, will allocate UAH 1 billion for the project,” the mayor added.

Measures to protect bridges

The Defence Council also discussed the safety of Kyiv’s bridges amid intensified Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.

City specialists are developing additional technical solutions to protect the structures of bridges spanning the Dnipro, Klitschko said. Military officials presented their proposals at the meeting.

On the night of October 27, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles, damaging the Southern Bridge and metro infrastructure located on it. Traffic across the bridge was temporarily suspended in both directions, and metro operations were adjusted.
