Ukrainian drones attacked one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, Slavneft-YANOS (Slavneft-Yaroslavnefteorgsintez), also known as the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery, overnight on November 3. The facility supplies fuel for military aircraft and equipment.
OSINT investigators from ASTRA analyzed photos and videos sent by readers and determined that the fire broke out on the refinery’s premises.
A drone attack warning had been issued in the Yaroslavl region before the strike. Local residents reported loud explosions and a fire at the plant.
Slavneft-YANOS is among Russia’s five largest oil refineries. Operating since 1961, the facility can process up to 15 million tonnes of crude oil annually, equivalent to approximately 300,000 barrels per day.
The refinery is part of Slavneft, jointly owned by Rosneft and Gazprom Neft.
It produces a wide range of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, aviation kerosene, lubricants and paraffin. Its products are supplied not only to the Yaroslavl region but also to central and northwestern parts of Russia.
The refinery also supplies fuel to the Moscow region. Its customers include Russian airports and military-industrial enterprises.
Overnight on November 1, a series of explosions was reported in Kstovo, in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. Videos of a large fire began circulating on social media at around 04:11 local time.
Local residents suspected that the LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery had been targeted. The facility is also among Russia’s largest refineries, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 17 million tonnes of crude oil.
