Ukraine and Russia have reportedly reached an agreement to conduct regular humanitarian missions, Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova has said, according to TASS.
Lantratova noted that the operation in Oleshky was preceded by months of work and negotiations.
“The mission has been completed. Unfortunately, living conditions in Oleshky remain extremely difficult. We have agreed to conduct regular humanitarian missions, which is a very important step,” she wrote on the Russian social media platform Max.
Lantratova also said she was continuing joint work with Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet confirmed or denied her statement.
However, Lubinets said the previous day that he hoped the humanitarian mission in Oleshky would be only the beginning.
“This experience has the potential to become the foundation of a new mechanism for responding to the most difficult humanitarian crises — a mechanism in which people, their safety and their right to life will always come first,” he said.
On October 31, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that residents evacuated from Oleshky had crossed into Ukrainian-controlled territory in Chernihiv region, bringing the mission to a successful conclusion.
