Ministry of Energy: Coming days will be difficult — electricity situation extremely challenging

Following a massive overnight Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the country is experiencing a significant electricity shortfall that is difficult to cover. The Ministry of Energy reported that damages to high-voltage substations forced nuclear plants to temporarily reduce output to stabilize the grid. Emergency power outages continue across most regions.

Kyiv faces the hardest impact, with residents receiving electricity only 1.5–2 hours per day. Authorities are setting up additional “resilience points” for charging devices, warming up, and getting hot drinks.

Critical facilities like Burshtyn TPP, as well as infrastructure in Lviv and Ternopil, were hit. Some residential buildings were damaged, and at least two casualties have been reported. Repairs are ongoing around the clock to restore electricity and heat.
