Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law providing social protections for military personnel, including a one-year deferral from mobilization for those who have served 12 months under the “Contract 18–24” program.
According to the law (4782-IX) published on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine website, servicemembers aged 18–25 who are released from active mobilization remain in the Armed Forces reserve. During this period, they can be called up only with their consent.
The law formalizes the right to a one-year deferral after completing the contract, a key element of the program for young recruits, as previously explained by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
The Ministry of Defense has also clarified who qualifies for the deferral and under what conditions it can be revoked.
Additionally, Ukrainians over 60 can now enlist under a one-year contract, which can be extended for another year during martial law.
