The United States has already spent more than $27 billion on its military operation against Iran, according to the Iran War Cost Tracker.
The estimate is based on data from the Pentagon.
The first six days of the war cost approximately $11.3 billion, while each subsequent day has required about $1 billion. However, the estimate may not include additional expenses such as force deployment and equipment replacement, meaning the actual total could be significantly higher.
Push for increased funding
Amid the ongoing conflict, Washington is debating a sharp increase in defense spending.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the Pentagon has already asked the White House to approve a request to Congress for more than $200 billion to fund the war effort against Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he may seek over $200 billion from Congress for military needs, calling such spending “a small price” in the context of the war.
At the same time, there is no consensus within the administration on next steps. According to The Wall Street Journal, some of Trump’s advisers favor a quicker end to the conflict due to rising oil prices and the risks of a prolonged war.
Intelligence doubts
The debate is further complicated by questions about the scale of the Iranian threat.
U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard did not reiterate in a recent address the assessment that Iran had not resumed its nuclear program after the 2025 strikes — a program whose destruction Trump has described as the primary objective of the war.
