The meeting was requested by Russia, which the U.S. side views as a sign of progress.

U.S. President’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Steve Witkoff, said he will meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin tomorrow. Several hours earlier, Donald Trump accused both Kyiv and Moscow of being unwilling to reach a peace deal quickly.

According to CNBC, the location of the talks has not yet been disclosed. Witkoff told media that in recent weeks there has been notable progress in relations between Ukraine and Russia, although territorial issues remain a major sticking point.

“It is the Russians who are asking for this meeting, and I think that is an important signal from their side,” Witkoff was quoted as saying. He also expressed hope that Putin would agree to a peace deal.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed plans for Putin to meet with Witkoff. Earlier, Ukrainian intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said there are signs of progress in the negotiation process, but it is still too early to talk about a quick peace. Former foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba has also stated that Ukraine could realistically expect a ceasefire in 2026, but not the end of the war, predicting potential negotiation “windows” at the end of February, in the summer, and late next winter.
