Zelenskyy: talks are not at a dead end, but there is a lack of communication

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he does not believe peace talks are at a dead end, stressing that negotiations are continuing and work on documents is underway. As an example, he noted that an agreement on Ukraine’s recovery is nearly complete, with only “the last mile” remaining.

Commenting on the lack of public statements from U.S. negotiators after last week’s meeting with the Ukrainian delegation in Florida, Zelenskyy suggested this points more to a communication gap than to a breakdown in talks, News.Live reported.

“The last mile is always the hardest — and that’s true,” the president said. “There is a lot of energy in these communications, but what’s needed is a result.”

Zelenskyy added that he remains in constant contact with the head of Ukraine’s delegation, Rustem Umerov, who is liaising with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Earlier, former foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said Ukraine could see a ceasefire in 2026, though not the end of the war, and predicted new “windows” for negotiations in late February, in the summer, and at the end of next winter.
