Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Chief of Staff, Kyrylo Budanov, has described the events in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka as unacceptable, saying authorities are investigating the incident and preparing further action.

In a Telegram post, Budanov said the events undermine unity among Ukrainians, particularly amid the ongoing Russian threat.

Law enforcement agencies and other authorized bodies are currently establishing the circumstances of the incident. They are expected to determine exactly what happened, identify those responsible and take steps to hold them accountable.

Budanov added that the authorities are working with the security and defense sector on the necessary decisions. These measures are intended to ensure an appropriate response and prevent possible provocations in the future.

He also urged Ukrainians to put the interests of the nation and the state first when making decisions and resolving conflicts.

What happened in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka

On the evening of November 2, local residents gathered outside a private house in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, near Kyiv. Reports circulated online alleging that men who had gone absent without leave from their military units were being held in the basement.

Later, National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko confirmed that National Guard servicemen had been staying in the house. According to him, they had been found after going absent without leave from their military unit.

Following the public outcry, the National Guard announced an internal investigation and pledged to hold those responsible accountable.
