China has renewed its call for dialogue, trust and mutual concessions to end Russia’s war against Ukraine and resolve conflicts in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
Speaking in Sofia at a briefing with his Bulgarian counterpart, Velislava Petrova-Chamova, Wang said restoring dialogue and strengthening trust were essential to achieving lasting peace.
“From the Ukraine crisis to conflicts in the Middle East, resolving differences requires trust, and strengthening trust requires dialogue,” Wang said, according to China’s Foreign Ministry.
He described trust as the cornerstone of peace and said its absence was one of the biggest challenges facing the world today.
China calls for renewed peace efforts
Wang said China, as a responsible major power, continued to work toward peace. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and regional security issues were also discussed during his meetings with Bulgarian officials.
He said China was sending all parties a clear message to rebuild trust and work together for peace. This required maintaining confidence, showing perseverance, pursuing dialogue and consultations, fostering mutual understanding and making reciprocal concessions.
Wang added that China would remain on what it considers the right side of history, fulfill its international obligations and play a constructive role in addressing the lack of trust and resolving crises and conflicts.
Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on the prospect of talks between the leaders of the United States, China and Russia without Ukraine, warning that Putin’s emergence from international isolation had already begun.
The United States is also seeking a new nuclear weapons agreement with Russia and China, with negotiations reportedly underway.
