Ukraine’s Armed Forces are set for personnel changes and organizational measures aimed at strengthening the country’s defenses against Russian drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy discussed the situation with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mykhailo Drapatyi, who briefed him on developments along the front.
“We have updated information on the Russian army’s objectives in the respective areas and are preparing our response,” Zelenskyy said, referring to the situation in Donetsk region, including Kostiantynivka and the Sloviansk and Pokrovsk directions.
Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal also briefed the president on protecting Ukrainian cities, communities and frontline logistics from Russian drone attacks. Zelenskyy said additional resources would be needed.
Together with Drapatyi, the president identified organizational measures that could strengthen defenses in the areas facing the most intense drone attacks. Zelenskyy also said he had ordered preparations for personnel decisions proposed by the commander-in-chief.
Long-range operations to continue
The president and military leadership also reviewed the results of Ukrainian long-range operations during the first half of August.
They confirmed priorities for deep strikes in the coming weeks and in September. Zelenskyy said verified damage inflicted on Russian targets demonstrates that Ukraine is pursuing the right long-range strategy.
Ukrainian forces have also recently targeted Russian facilities used for the storage, preparation and control of strike drones, as well as a Russian command post in occupied Crimea and Kherson region.
