President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved the dismissal of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.

A presidential decree states: “To dismiss Ruslan Andriiovych Kravchenko from the position of Prosecutor General.”

Investigation triggered political crisis

The controversy surrounding Kravchenko intensified after the “Carthage” investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

Investigators said they had uncovered an alleged criminal organization, reportedly created and led by Serhii Kropyva, head of one of the Prosecutor General’s Office divisions.

Members of the group were allegedly involved in systematically receiving bribes from fraudulent call centers in exchange for allowing them to operate without interference.

Against the backdrop of the investigation, Kravchenko submitted his resignation on September 7, describing it as a deliberate political decision and saying he did not want the position of Prosecutor General to become an instrument of political confrontation.

The situation escalated further on September 14, when Kravchenko claimed he had signed a notice of suspicion against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos.

The same day, Zelenskyy said Kravchenko had only one possible path — dismissal — and urged parliament to act promptly.

On September 15, the Verkhovna Rada voted to dismiss Kravchenko. Zelenskyy subsequently formalized the decision by presidential decree.
