Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina, recently the runner-up at a tournament in the UAE, advanced to the semifinals of the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, USA.

In a tense two-hour, three-set match, Svitolina defeated Poland’s world No. 2 Iga Swiatek with a score of 6–2, 4–6, 6–4.

In the semifinal, Svitolina will face the winner of the match between Jessica Pegula (USA) and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan).

The 31-year-old Svitolina, a former world No. 3, is the most accomplished Ukrainian tennis player in history, with 19 WTA singles titles. She also won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Ukraine’s first-ever Olympic tennis medal.
