Iran has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles worth $2.7 billion since October 2021 to support Moscow’s war against Ukraine, Bloomberg reports, citing a Western official.

According to the source, Tehran and Moscow began signing contracts in October 2021 for the delivery of short-range ballistic missiles and surface-to-air missiles. In total, the value of these contracts is estimated at $2.7 billion.

Under these deals, Russia has reportedly received:

  • Hundreds of Fath-360 short-range ballistic missiles
  • Nearly 500 other short-range ballistic missiles
  • Around 200 surface-to-air missiles for air defense systems

Overall, Moscow is believed to have spent over $4 billion on Iranian military equipment since late 2021. Bloomberg notes that Iran also provided Russia with Shahed-136 kamikaze drones and joint technologies enabling Moscow to manufacture its own “Geran” drones, under a $1.75 billion agreement signed in early 2023.

Bloomberg also recalls that while Iran and Russia signed a strategic partnership in January 2025, it did not include a mutual defense pact, and Moscow did not offer Tehran substantial assistance during Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran last year.
