Russian forces have reportedly used kamikaze drones of the “Shahed” type equipped with Starlink satellite internet terminals in attacks on Ukraine for the first time. This was reported by electronic warfare and communications expert Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov.
According to the author of the Telegram channel Serhiy FLASH | About Technology, video footage of a Shahed attack on Ukrainian helicopters near Kropyvnytskyi, released by Russian war correspondents, provides evidence of this. The footage shows the operation of the target auto-lock system and the manual guidance process using real-time imaging.
“No UAVs were nearby to create EW mesh networks. I conclude that this is the first use of Shaheds with Starlink,” Beskrestnov said.
He added that the Shaheds, controlled manually, flew almost at ground level to avoid detection by radar.
“Did I expect this? Yes. Did I warn about it? Yes. Did anyone listen? No. These are all the challenges our team will have to work with. And we will work proactively,” the expert emphasized.
