Ukraine is forced to prepare for a worst-case scenario in which Russia launches up to 1,000 attack drones per day and must rapidly scale up interceptor production, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said while speaking to journalists.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia has long aimed to reach the level of 1,000 drones daily. While its current real capacity is around 350 drones per day — up from an average of 250 — Ukraine must plan for the maximum threat.
The president said Ukraine is already producing about 1,000 interceptor drones per day, but this is still not enough to fully counter potential attacks. Moreover, the main bottleneck is no longer equipment but personnel.
“Interceptors have already outpaced the number of trained operators. Now we need to scale up mobile crews and units to match this capacity,” Zelenskyy explained.
He added that the task has been set for Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and the new defense minister, Mykhailo Fedorov. Ukraine is expanding capabilities through domestic production and bilateral partnerships that finance its defense industry.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine already has interceptor drones capable of effectively destroying Russian Shahed drones, including jet-powered variants.
