Ukraine, U.S., and Russia to hold first trilateral technical-level meeting in the Emirates.

Ukraine, the United States, and Russia will hold their first trilateral meeting at the technical level in the United Arab Emirates in the coming days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Zelenskyy noted that the U.S. delegation will travel to Moscow today, January 22. The American officials had waited for Zelenskyy’s meeting with President Donald Trump before heading to talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“My team will meet with the American team, and I think this will be the first trilateral meeting in the Emirates. I believe it will take place tomorrow and the day after. It will be a two-day meeting,” Zelenskyy said.

The president added that he hopes the Emirates are aware of these plans, as the U.S. side sometimes arranges “surprises.” Regardless, the negotiating teams will proceed as planned.

“I think it is good if this trilateral meeting begins at the technical level… The Russians must be ready to compromise, because everyone must be ready, not just Ukraine, and this is important for us,” he said.

Zelenskyy also suggested that U.S. officials may meet with Putin in Moscow either overnight on January 23 or tomorrow during the day.

“They (the Russians) may have to wait a little for the meeting to happen. I don’t know. But tomorrow and the day after, we will have a trilateral meeting; our teams will have a trilateral meeting,” he added.

He stressed that both Ukraine and Russia are currently in difficult situations: many Ukrainians remain without electricity due to Russian attacks, while Russia is also receiving responses to its assaults.

Zelenskyy meets Trump

Earlier on January 22, Zelenskyy met with President Trump in Davos. Both the Ukrainian president and the U.S. leader described the meeting as productive.

On the same day, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were expected to meet with Putin in Moscow. According to Witkoff, the meeting was initiated by the Russians.
