Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight on September 17 using multiple types of missiles and drones. Ukrainian air defenses neutralized 131 aerial targets, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
Weapons used in the attack
Russia launched:
- Oniks anti-ship missiles from Kursk region;
- Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Voronezh regions;
- four Kalibr cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea area;
- 10 Banderol/Dan-T drones from the airspace over the Sea of Azov;
- 157 Shahed strike drones, more than half of them jet-powered, as well as Parodiya decoy drones.
The main directions of the attack were Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions.
Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups took part in repelling the attack.
131 targets intercepted
As of 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had neutralized 131 targets, including:
- seven Banderol/Dan-T drones;
- 124 Shahed, Gerbera and other drones.
At the same time, Russian missile and drone strikes were recorded at 36 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell at another five sites.
