Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed an S-400 launcher in Russia’s Bryansk region on September 17 using FP-1 drones, defense company Fire Point said.
According to the company, the Russian launcher had been modified for strikes against ground targets and was intended to be used against Kyiv. Fire Point said the system had previously been used to attack the Ukrainian capital.
The launcher was destroyed near the village of Poroshino in Bryansk region.
What is the S-400?
The S-400 Triumf is a Russian long- and medium-range surface-to-air missile system designed to engage aircraft, drones and cruise missiles. Russia also claims it can intercept certain ballistic targets.
The system includes radar stations, a command post and launchers using missiles with different ranges. Russia claims that some of its missiles can engage aerial targets at distances of up to 400 kilometers.
The first S-400 systems entered service with the Russian military in 2007. Russia considers them a key element of its air-defense network and has deployed them in occupied Crimea.
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Forces reported striking two S-400 launchers near Vyhonychi in Bryansk region.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry also said that Ukrainian forces had damaged 17 air-defense systems during August, including an S-400 system.
