Russian forces attacked Ukraine with missiles, drones and an aerial bomb overnight and into the morning of September 17, targeting civilian and infrastructure facilities in Kyiv and several regions.
Kyiv
Russian strikes again hit civilian infrastructure in the capital, with the consequences recorded at more than 10 locations.
As of 8 a.m., 16 people were injured, including two children — a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. Nine people, including a child, were hospitalized.
Damage was recorded in four districts:
- Dniprovskyi district: warehouses, an office building, residential buildings and vehicles were damaged;
- Solomianskyi district: a warehouse building was damaged;
- Darnytskyi district: a warehouse and vehicles were damaged;
- Podilskyi district: the roof of a non-residential building was damaged.
A warehouse also caught fire in Podilskyi district following a drone strike.
A higher-education facility in Holosiivskyi district was also damaged. The facade and windows of a four-story building were affected, while a small five-square-meter fire was quickly extinguished. No casualties were reported there.
The attack also affected Kyiv’s water infrastructure. A building belonging to Kyivvodokanal was damaged, temporarily reducing water pressure in parts of the city. Specialists subsequently restored normal water supply.
Kyiv region
The attack on Kyiv region continued from September 16 through the night and morning of September 17.
According to regional authorities, Russian forces used drones and ballistic missiles against residential areas and civilian facilities in Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv and Bucha districts.
A total of 33 facilities were damaged, including private homes, warehouses, industrial buildings and vehicles. The largest number of damaged sites was recorded in Brovary district, with 14, and Fastiv district, with 10.
No casualties were reported in Kyiv region.
Odesa region
Odesa region remained under a large-scale combined attack for much of the night.
Seven people were injured, including two children aged 4 and 13.
A Russian drone struck a multi-story residential building, destroying 10 apartments on the 14th through 16th floors and damaging 11 vehicles.
Other strikes damaged at least five private homes, a kindergarten, a dormitory, a restaurant’s outdoor area, warehouses, garages and cars.
Emergency and municipal services are working at the impact sites, while an operational center has been established to assist residents.
Kropyvnytskyi
In Kropyvnytskyi, Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure, according to regional authorities.
No casualties had been reported.
Zaporizhzhia
Russian forces launched a missile strike on Zaporizhzhia, injuring three people.
The missiles struck industrial facilities, causing partial structural damage and a fire at one of the sites.
Dnipropetrovsk region
At around 7:30 a.m., Russian forces attacked two areas of Dnipropetrovsk region with drones and an aerial bomb.
In Nikopol district, strikes affected Nikopol itself as well as the Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities.
In Synelnykove district, Russian forces struck the Bohdanivka and Vasylkivka communities, causing fires.
Sumy region
In Konotop, part of the city was left without water following the Russian attack.
Municipal services are working to restore the water supply.
Kharkiv region
Russian forces also targeted railway infrastructure in Kharkiv region.
The railway station in Berestyn was damaged. Ukrzaliznytsia said employees were in shelters during the attack and none were injured.
Railway workers across the country are continuing to repair infrastructure damaged during the latest wave of attacks. The company also plans to restore full service on parts of Kyiv’s urban railway network where several stations sustained significant damage.
UN calls for immediate ceasefire
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine as the first step toward a lasting peace.
He said the war has entered its fifth year and that an end to the suffering of civilians remains out of sight.
The latest attacks came amid continued Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian, energy, logistics and transport infrastructure.
