Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Oleksii Syrsky reported on Facebook that Russia plans to recruit an additional 409,000 military personnel in 2026.
"This means one thing – the enemy is not abandoning its intentions and continues preparing for further aggression against Ukraine," Syrsky stated.
He added that as weather conditions improve, Russian activity on the front is increasing. Syrsky conducted an operational meeting on the state of defensive engineering lines. Key tasks include strengthening fortifications, developing anti-drone defenses, and preparing settlements for defense.
Syrsky also reviewed reports from military commanders, the leadership of the State Special Transport Service, and heads of regional military administrations.
"There are problematic issues – we have identified specific solutions and deadlines. The quality and speed of this work affect not only the resilience of our defenses but also the lives of our soldiers," the commander noted.
Mobilization in Russia
Previously, Bloomberg reported that rising Russian army losses could derail Kremlin plans for a large-scale offensive against Ukraine in the coming months.
Deputy Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Pavlo Palisa stated that Russia would be forced to resume mobilization if it fails to make political progress or reach agreements in negotiations.
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is creating conditions for a limited, phased call-up of reservists to compensate for losses in the war against Ukraine.
Additionally, China recently warned its citizens living in Russia to exercise caution due to a new law on military conscription, which obliges foreigners to serve in the Russian army.
