On the night of Wednesday, March 25, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a Russian naval vessel in Russia’s Leningrad region.
According to a statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a joint operation in the Leningrad region, a Russian vessel was hit at the Vyborg Shipyard.
“The Defense Forces of Ukraine struck a vessel of the Russian occupiers in the Leningrad region on the night of March 25 at the Vyborg Shipyard,” the statement said.
Preliminary reports suggest the target was the patrol icebreaker Purga (Project 23550), intended for service with the FSB Border Service. Such vessels are designed for dual use, functioning both as icebreakers and as military ships.
The General Staff emphasized that Ukrainian forces will continue to strike key enemy assets both in temporarily occupied territories and within the Russian Federation until the full cessation of Russian armed aggression.
During the same night, local residents reported fires at the site of the shipyard, including a burning cargo vessel. A building near an FSB facility in Vyborg was also reportedly on fire.
Related drone attacks in Russia
On the same night, Russia’s Leningrad region came under a large-scale drone attack. Fires were reported at the Ust-Luga port, a strategically important hub for Russian energy exports.
Following recent strikes, Russia temporarily suspended oil exports through the ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga due to damage and disruptions.
Earlier, on March 23, Ukraine’s Defense Forces also struck key Russian energy infrastructure, including the Transneft Primorsk oil terminal and the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim refinery.
