It was previously reported that trilateral talks would take place on March 11.
Trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia are currently on hold due to the situation in the Middle East. However, the negotiating teams remain in daily contact, said Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
He noted that the trilateral talks had already been postponed before and are currently delayed again.
“This means they have not been canceled or abandoned, only postponed in time. There is no need to look for any hidden meaning here. The United States’ attention is now fully focused on the Middle East, and under such conditions…” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said during a briefing in Kyiv.
He emphasized that “working-level contact continues,” but in order to move the process forward, meetings are necessary — ideally at the level of leaders.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied reports that the trilateral talks would take place on March 11. According to him, at the request of the American side, negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia were postponed.
Previously, talks held in Abu Dhabi and Geneva were planned to continue on March 5 in the United Arab Emirates, but due to the war in the Middle East, the time and location were changed. The most recent meeting of the delegations took place on February 17–18 in Switzerland.
As a result of the Geneva talks, a mutual prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine was achieved. In early March, 500 Ukrainian defenders returned home from Russian captivity.
