Ukraine needs its partners to establish joint weapons production to counter Russia’s increasingly fast jet-powered drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine has unique experience in protecting critical infrastructure and has already shared technologies and expertise with partners in the Middle East during large-scale drone attacks.
According to the president, Russia has begun equipping drones with jet engines, making them significantly faster and more difficult to intercept.
Ukraine currently lacks sufficient systems to counter these targets, although work on new solutions is already underway.
“We already have more than 60 companies working on this. We will solve this issue, but we need time,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that Ukraine faces not only technological constraints but also a lack of funding to produce the thousands of interceptor drones needed to counter Russian UAVs.
“That is why we share our knowledge and technologies, but you also need to work every day. That is why we are talking about joint production and production lines in other countries,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has meanwhile approved the Air Baby 350 high-speed interceptor drone, manufactured by Strix Air, for use by Ukraine’s Defense Forces. The drone has a maximum speed of 350 km/h.
