Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Saratov oil refinery, part of Russia’s Rosneft, overnight on September 11, causing fires at the facility, Ukraine’s General Staff reported.

The strike was carried out by operators of the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR). The target was approximately 600 kilometers from Ukraine.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The Saratov refinery is one of the key oil-processing facilities in Russia’s Volga region. It can process around 7 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces more than 20 types of petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel fuel used to support Russian military operations.

This was the second reported strike on the refinery this week. Ukrainian drones attacked the facility overnight on September 8, when Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin reported damage to civilian infrastructure and casualties.

The refinery has now been targeted by Ukrainian drones more than 15 times.
