Ukrainian drones attacked the Azot plant, a branch of JSC OHC Uralchem, in Berezniki, Perm Krai, on the morning of September 11, according to the Exilenova+ Telegram channel and local reports.
What the plant produces
The facility covers around 140 hectares and includes approximately 90 industrial buildings.
It specializes in producing:
- ammonia;
- nitric acid;
- ammonium nitrate;
- urea;
- nitrite-nitrate salts and other nitrogen-based chemical products.
Importance to Russia’s defense industry
The plant’s products are also relevant to Russia’s military-industrial sector.
Concentrated nitric acid is used in the production of explosives, while ammonia and nitric acid serve as basic raw materials for other nitrogen-based chemical products.
The attack came amid a broader wave of Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory.
During the night of September 11, drones also targeted Volgograd, Kaspiysk and Samara. In Volgograd, debris reportedly fell on an industrial facility, while drones allegedly struck a port in Kaspiysk.
Saratov was also targeted that night, with fires reported at the Saratov oil refinery and an Ozon warehouse following the attacks.
