Tulsi Gabbard named the biggest threat to the United States from Russia.
Over the past year, Russia has maintained an advantage in the war in Ukraine, and Moscow will continue fighting until it believes it has achieved its goals. This was stated by Gabbard during hearings at the US Senate Intelligence Committee.
“Negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, mediated by the United States, are ongoing. Until an agreement is reached, Moscow will likely continue a slow war of attrition until it considers its objectives achieved,” she said.
She also commented on assistance from North Korea to Russia. According to her, this cooperation has strengthened Pyongyang’s capabilities, which deployed more than 11,000 troops to the Kursk region in 2024.
“Russia retains the ability to selectively challenge US interests through military and non-military means… The greatest threat from Russia is potential escalation of the conflict, particularly in Ukraine, or a new conflict that could lead to direct clashes, including the possible use of nuclear weapons,” the intelligence chief added.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he has a “very bad feeling” about the impact of the Middle East conflict on the war in Ukraine and noted that peace talks are “constantly being delayed.”
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Ukrainian authorities are “not ready” to end the war through diplomacy, and therefore Russia intends to achieve its goals on the battlefield.
